In 2007 Mel Tillis was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Mel has recorded more than 60 albums. He has had thirty-six Top Ten singles, with nine of them going to Number One - "Good Woman Blues," "Coca-Cola Cowboy," and "Southern Rain" to mention a few. Mel tillis will be headlining the show at the Carson Center, with Special Guest Pam Tillis (Mel's daughter) opening for him.

We're kicking of the 30th Anniversary with a Symphonic Hit Parade of selections from beloved symphonic works performed during the PSO's 30-year history with special narrative reflections on the music by our principal PSO musicians. This concert is a great introduction to the orchestra experience for symphony newbies and a walk down musical memory lane for the veteran concert-goer, including symphonies by Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Beethoven, and more.

Paducah Symphony: Dancin' in the Seats

Dance moments in orchestral music from around the world compliment a showcase special guest performance by Murray native Scott Conklin, University of Iowa Professor of Violin and the PSO's first Young Artist Competition winner, performing Maurice Ravel's Tzigane. Spotlight dances by professionals and students from area studios will add a multi-dimensional interdisciplinary element.

Featuring spectacular sets and beautifully costumed Russian dancers, Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker is an annual treat for the whole family. Whimsical and imaginative storytelling blends with the richness of Russian classical dance to make the Great Russian Nutcracker a unique performance not to be missed!
Choreographer Emelianov has been praised by critics for its unique setting of Act II in the "Land of Peace and Harmony." To convey his message of peace, Emelianov incorporates an ethereal dove that escorts Masha and the Prince to a land where there is no war or suffering.
Set against Valentin Fedorov's spectacular scenic design, with larger-than-life puppets and the backdrop of unicorns, exotic birds and animals, the Great Russian Nutcracker is a visual delight. The sets were inspired by the art of French Post-Impressionist painter Henri Rousseau, who worked in the Naïve, Primitive style. Federov is a graduate of the world-renowned, Moscow-based Stanislavski Institute.

My Kentucky Home: A Lincoln Portrait.This concert commemorates the 2009 Bicentennial of President Abraham Lincoln's birth here in Kentucky and features one of America's greatest musical gems, Aaron Copland's A Lincoln Portrait, along with musical works saluting our national and local musical heritage (My Old Kentucky Home) performed by 2009 Young Artist Competition Winners, and Copland's Old American Songs with the combined Symphony & Children's Choruses.

Paducah Symphony: Porgy & Bess

The 30th Anniversary culminates with a salute to America: Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and a concert version of Porgy & Bess with the Paducah Symphony Chorus. The PSO will also perform Pulitzer Prize winning composer Joseph Schwantner's Chasing Light as one of only two Kentucky orchestras participating in Ford Made in America II, a Grammy-award winning project by small-budget orchestras across the U.S. to jointly commission a work from a living composer.
