Summer Opportunities

BE THE STAR THAT YOU ARE this summer at the Carson Center!

The Carson Center has 3 different opportunities for youth and teens to learn, participate, and shine on our stage this summer!  Our summer camps are open to all levels of talent and all are welcome to apply.   Space is limited so please register early.  If you need more information or have any questions, please feel free to contact Mary Katz, Director of Education, mkatz@thecarsoncenter.org

Broadway Workshop™ Junior
June 3-4, 2017 (Ages 6-8)     
Join us as we bring BROADWAY WORKSHOP™ JUNIOR to the Carson Center stage for the first time! Students ages 6-8 will have the chance to step into the limelight for a two-day Musical Theatre workshop direct from New York City! Marc Tumminelli, Director and Owner of Broadway Workshop™ in NYC, along with guest teaching artists will lead students in learning songs and choreography from Broadway’s best musicals in preparation for a fun camp showcase. Campers will also take part in several workshops, including Improv, Acting, and Dance/Movement, during their time spent at the Carson Center. This exciting new program will allow younger performers the opportunity to explore the magic of performing in a fun, safe and supportive environment. 

The registration fee is $125.  Hours: June 3 & 4, 1-5 p.m.  Showcase: June 4, 5:00 p.m.

Broadway Workshop™  
June 5-9, 2017 (Ages 9-18) 
Broadway Workshop Camp Kentucky    Broadway Workshop on the Today Show
Broadway Worskhop ™at the Carson Center is a 5-day musical theater intensive led by acclaimed professionals from New York City. Returning to the Carson Center for the 6th year, Broadway Workshop is directed by Marc Tumminelli, Director of Broadway Workshop™ New York, and is taught by a team of top theater professionals, who have worked on Broadway, in film, on TV, and at theaters across the country. Past guest artists include Taylor Louderman (Bring It On), Heather Parcels (Finding Neverland) Stephanie Fittro (Legally Blonde), Casey Lee Thompson (Legally Blonde), Jessica Lee Goldyn (Hello Dolly, A Chorus Line) and Jessica Lea Patty (Bandstand, Addams Family, 9 to 5).  
Participants will take master classes in singing, dancing, acting, stagecraft, and more while learning and rehearsing ensemble-based Broadway musical numbers for a final showcase performance for friends & family on the Carson Center stage. Participants return to the Carson Center on Saturday, June 10 for a fun cast party lunch and enjoy a Broadway show together at the Market House Theatre.  

The registration fee for the 5-day intensive is $325.  Hours: Monday- Thursday-10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. each day, Friday 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Beauty and the Beast Musical Theatre Camp  
June 26-30, 2017 (Ages 6-18)

The Beauty and the Beast Musical Theatre Camp at the Carson Center is a 5-day Summer Musical Theatre intensive and performance opportunity for students ages 6-18. This year, the Carson Center and Missoula Children’s Theatre of Montana will present Beauty Lou and the Country Beast, an original musical production of Beauty and the Beast. Participants will open up the week with a relaxed open audition in our Myre River Room. This will be directed by Missoula Children’s Theatre touring actors and will be welcoming to all levels of talent. ALL students who participate in this audition will receive a role in the production. For those students interested in production and direction, there are Assistant Director Positions that will be cast by the MCT staff.  Assistant Directors will help with the rehearsal process, as well as technical elements on the day of the production. When not rehearsing, campers will be involved in several different theater-based workshops taught by regional artists. This includes stage combat, movement for the actor, make-up, acting/scene work and characterization. Campers will perform on the Carson Center stage on the last day of camp for their friends and family. Performances are at 2:00 and 5:30 p.m. 

The registration fee for this camp is $99.00.  The camp schedule is Monday, June 26-Thursday, June 29, 10:00 a.m. -3:30 p.m. and Friday, June 30, 10:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
