This holiday season, on December 1, join us at the Carson Center as we present Kids' Holiday STEAM* Camp and Christmas Science Showcase featuring Jason Lindsey, aka "Mr. Science," of Hooked on Science.
(*STEAM- Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math). Camp will be from 11am-4pm.
Kids' Holiday STEAM Camp will engage students in grade 3-5 in 6 hours of spectacular holiday-themed science experiments and activities that are sure to get them excited about the holidays and science.
• Engineer static electricity ornaments
• Create an instant snowstorm
• Discover once and for all how Santa gets down the chimney
• Explore how Christmas lights operate and more.
"Mr. Science" will also bring his Mobile STEM Lab so all camp participants can learn by playing with Circuits in Seconds, Circuit Conductor, Ozobots, and Cubelets; plus, participants will also create science art! The camp day will culminate with The Christmas Science Showcase, which takes place on the Carson Center Stage immediately following the camp instruction at 3 pm. Family and Friends are invited to this free event to watch students demonstrate their learning and perform experiments on the Carson Center stage. During the showcase, participants will help Mr. Science by creating a mega cloud and will discover how many breaths it takes to inflate a 23 feet Diaper Genie bag. Following the showcase, camp participants will take the lead and guide and engage audience members in hands-on science stations which encourage fine motor and problem-solving skills.
Camp participation is open to students in grades 3-5. Space is limited to 30 participants, and registrations will be accepted on a first come - first served basis. The cost of the camp is $60 and includes all educational activities, snack and drink, take-home science bag with a special surprise from "Mr. Science," and free admittance for friends and family to The Christmas Science Showcase on the Carson Center stage.
